POSITION TITLE: Sr. Estimator
REPORTS TO: Estimating Manager
LOCATION: Houston, La Porte, TX or Baton Rouge, LA
Position Sumamry
Execute all estimating functions for Wyatt Field Service Company (Wyatt) including the creation of well-organized, accurate, compelling, and ultimately successful proposals for Turnarounds, Capital Projects, and Maintenance work throughout the Oil, Gas, and Chemical industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Review proposed project requirements, specifications, and drawings to determine scope of work and estimate costs to complete the project.
- Conduct project site visits with construction management personnel and client/EPC contractors.
- Display personal and professional ethics and comply with company policies and procedures.
- Develop a complete mechanical estimate inclusive of shop fabrication, pipe erection, equipment setting, and instrumentation based on the Request for Proposal documents.
- Quantify project quantities using on screen and manual take off tools.
- Assemble estimates into project estimates for intermediary budgeting and bid day submittals.
- Attend pre-bid meetings/site visits to evaluate constructability, site conditions, and factors that could impact labor productivities.
- Develop a complete labor and material estimate inclusive of general conditions (i.e., staff, equipment, consumables, etc.) inclusive of labor productivities and installation schemes.
- Interface with rigging engineers to develop crane requirements.
- Interface with schedulers/planners to develop "waterfall" logic and support resource loading of the proposal schedule.
- Interface with in-house procurement or outside vendors to obtain subcontractor proposal or commodity pricing.
Competencies
- Maintain conformance with estimating standards and work instructions.
- Working knowledge of the operating procedures for project controls estimating practices.
- Maintain orderly files of all electronic correspondence, electronic or hard copy deliverables, specifications, etc. used for the estimate.
- Manage bid pricing from all vendors.
- Coordinate and monitor estimate activities and systems to ensure availability of timely, accurate information.
- Conduct a detailed analysis to estimate the quantities of materials required for construction through means of computerized take-off or manual method.
- Perform risk analysis and consider the factors that may interfere with project progress, adjust estimate accordingly.
- Ensure estimated items are correctly allocated by established Work Breakdown Structures/Cost Breakdown Structures.
- Able to read and understand major engineering deliverables (P&ID's, Site Plans, General Arrangements, etc.)
- Assist in the review of risk analysis on projects as they relate to project cost/schedule.
Technical Competencies
- Detailed knowledge of design, procurement, and construction/field service processes and their inherent cost performance risks.
- Detailed understanding of estimating processes.
- In depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation formulas.
- Strong background in Mechanical construction estimating in the industrial market.
- Proficient in estimating methods for Lump Sum, Fixed Price, Cost Plus, T&M, and Unit Price contracts.
- Proficient with computers including experience with: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams) and Primavera (P6)
Skills and Requirements
- Minimum 7 years' experience as an estimator or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related.
- Minimum 7 years' craft experience in Turnarounds, Capital Projects, Greenfield, and Brownfield projects.
- Experience in turnaround procurement, accounting, construction, production, or operations.
- General knowledge of construction market, estimating techniques, engineered drawings, cost control, and scheduling of equipment procurement and construction of projects.
- Well-developed working knowledge of purchase orders, contracts, and cost accounting systems.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of project cost accounting including WBS set-up, budget and actual cost allocations, and variance reporting.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, and general knowledge of PowerPoint and other scheduling software.
- Primavera (P6)
- Ability to identify numerous variables and identify parameters that produce consistency and trends in capital project materials and construction pricing.
- Ability to work independently and accurately under pressure.
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Need:
- To be familiar with take-offs and pricing self-performed merit shop work; must have experience in lump sum, competitive bid environments.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills, self-directed with strong organizational skills, attention to details, and strong analytical skills in regard to cost/pricing of material, labor, and equipment.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge with computer programs and software as described below.
Experience:
- 7-10 years minimum experience estimating mechanical and piping projects.
- Experience in heavy mechanical capital projects, outages and/or turnaround environments, estimating civil, structural steel, piping, and/or related field is a plus.
- Primavera (P6) scheduling and planning turnarounds.
License(s)/Certification(s) Required:
- Valid state issued driver's license.
- TWIC card.
